Incredibly knowledgeable, responsible and keen to try new things – these are the words that first pop into our head when thinking of Riccardo Tamburini. A professional hunter from Italy, he’s been our ambassador for many years now, so naturally, we couldn’t pass on the chance to ask him about hunting-related favorites. If you, too, are curious to get to know Riccardo better, keep on reading!
Hunting is a lifestyle for me, not only a passion. It influences a lot of what I do every day, my state of mind, my relationship with nature and my habits. Hunting is a curiosity to see what is behind the horizon, knowledge, a way of rebellion, a return to our origins, an unconscious way to test ourselves in that part of the environment still not attached to concrete, tarmac and steel, and a strong desire to be connected with nature.
Type of hunt: Woodcocks with pointing dogs, driven wild boar hunts, and hunting all big European mammals present in my country – Italy.
Location: Italy, but I prefer to say… everywhere in the world.
Time of the year: All year long, depending on the type of hunt.
Animal to hunt: Birds like pheasants, partridges and woodcocks, and red deer, roe deer, fallow deer, wild boars, chamois and mouflons.
Game to eat: I love venison, and I use everything I harvest from hunting, from small birds to big red stag. I love cooking, and I’m always excited to test new venison recipes.
Gear to use: Rifle in different calibers (depending on what I’m going to hunt) and shotguns but, from quite recently, also crossbow.
Pulsar device: I love the Thermion family. I couldn’t ask for anything better than this. Then, spending a lot of time in the wild observing animals, Merger LRF XP50, Axion 2 family, and Helion 2 XP50 Pro.
Becoming a Pulsar ambassador is becoming a part of a family. The most important thing for me is to meet people who come from abroad and are completely different from me. I love listening to their opinions, sharing stories and experiences lived in the wild. Then, the possibility to thoroughly use a big part of the Pulsar catalog, often before the others, and also the chance to better understand their construction, function, technologies and all the components used.
Way to practice: The best thing to do is to spend more time outdoors. Observing nature is the best way to learn about how to become a good hunter. But that’s not enough. Today, a good hunter has to know a lot about animals, calibers, ammunition, wear, and gear. The internet offers us a wonderful mine of information and it’s imperative to study more than you did when you were at school. Of course, there are also magazines or books but the internet is the easiest way to find information.
Being a good hunter means always doubting your personal skills and knowledge, studying, learning and listening to improve. Most importantly, be curious, and you’ll be a good hunter.
Hunting is always a challenge. If you think that going outdoors with a rifle is enough to get an animal, you are wrong. Hunting is curiosity, observation, knowledge, experience, honesty and will, and never approximation, shallowness and lack of preparation which are always the best recipe to fail.
Media to get news about shooting/hunting: Above all – YouTube and the internet in general, but also TV and some good magazines.
Hunting is curiosity, observation, knowledge, experience, honesty and will, and never approximation, shallowness and lack of preparation which are always the best recipe to fail.
