Firmware update: enhanced security for Pulsar devices

We are introducing a major security update x.x.100 that will protect all current Pulsar devices from increased risks of cybersecurity.

The update will automatically change the default password of the device to a random one if it was not changed by the user beforehand. The recent update is necessary to enhance the protection of our users along with improving the stability of the devices and complying with the new regulations of IoT (Internet of Things).

Covering the entire product range

The firmware update will take effect on all current Pulsar devices and will be rolled out in two steps. The first one includes the following product lines:

  • Merger LRF thermal imaging binoculars
  • Thermion 2 thermal imaging riflescopes with and without the LRF
  • Thermion Duo DXP50/55 multispectral riflescopes
  • Digex C50 digital day and night vision riflescope
  • Telos thermal imaging monoculars

The second round will follow later this month and will include the rest of the product range.

No risk of losing the password

After updating your device, the default password will be changed to a random one. The new, automatically generated unique password can be found in the main menu of the device, in the Wi-Fi settings section.

The user can always change this password to a preferred one. This option was also available prior to the update. If the user had already changed the default password before the update, it would remain the same.

Reconnecting with your smartphone

Please be aware that due to the default password change, your smartphone will no longer connect to the device via Wi-Fi network. A few simple steps need to be taken to solve this issue:

  1. Go to your smartphone’s settings and choose to forget the existing device Wi-Fi network.

  2. Check for the new password in the Wi-Fi settings section in the main menu of your Pulsar device.

  3. Reconnect your smartphone to the Wi-Fi using the new device password.

  4. Now your smartphone and Pulsar device should connect as usual via Wi-Fi.
